With the holiday shopping season over, retailers have now entered what is traditionally the slowest sales time of the year. Consumers are in a shopping freeze, having spent money for the holidays, and are now working on paying off their credit card bills. While the cash register may not be ringing as much these months, that doesn't mean it should be ignored. In fact, this is the perfect time for business owners to consider an upgrade.

A recent article from Box Free IT calls for the death of the cash register, as other solutions like cloud-based point of sale systems and mobile registers start to take hold. The biggest reason to upgrade, according to the piece, is the ability to integrate transaction and customer information into a singular software solution.

The article features an interview with Nick Houldsworth, the chief marketing officer for a POS software company. He mentioned that traditional cash registers are not integrated with other systems, leading to an increased workload when it comes to reporting.

"All you get is a record of how much you have sold at the end of each day printed out on a piece of paper and you have to take that piece of paper and put it into something else," Houldsworth told the news source. "Running a cash register adds a whole day in a week in admin time."

By partnering with a company that specializes in the latest POS software, any organization can easily take steps toward upgrading its cash register software and get employees trained.
