There are few large restaurant chains that do a better job of catering to sports fans than Buffalo Wild Wings. However, as the wants and needs of consumers are changing, so to must operations to be able to properly engage them.

According to an article from Hospitality Technology, the chain is making a significant investment in tablet point of sale solutions. By the end of 2015, all of the more than 1,000 locations will be adding tablets to every table. Through these devices, customers will be exposed to advertisements, special deals, the ability to play games, place food and drink orders and pay for everything in a single bill.

The article featured comments from Karen Bird, the vice president of information technology at Buffalo Wild Wings. She said that this is being done as a way to improve the customer experience. This is something that the company has been trying for several years but now believes the technology is ready.

Aside from the hardware, the company also needs to upgrade its networking and deploy a cloud-based POS solution to help the system run effectively.

"We do have guest-facing WiFi in all of our restaurants today," Bird said. "But with all of the things that we're doing and the number of devices, we realized that the current infrastructure wouldn't support our technology. We're completely overhauling our in-store networks and piloting business-class guest WiFi in our company-owned restaurants."

This shows how far POS and card processing software and solutions have evolved. Mobility is a major consumer trend that is going to grow in the years to come.
